LINN DS (digital streaming) is a source product with no moving parts (no background noise) that can in principle play any digital file whether it be from a hard disk, a remote server or even cloud based music for example Spotify. LINN DS can play almost every format including the best format available for purchase today - 24 Bit Studio Master. 192 Khz.

Question: Why not just use a PC and a DAC
Firstly PC/MAC based media players are not High Fidelity products, add to that the background electrical noise inherent with a computer and you are off to a bad start.
Music is simply Timing and Notes. LINN DS \pulls the information from source file unlike the DAC alternative where a PC pushes using its own clock and then the information is re/clocked using the DAC.
A ''push'' system with Two digital clocks and re-clocking ... this is bad news for the sound reproduction.
By pulling the information itself, the LINN DS is in complete control, can enjoy a substantial buffer and there is only one LINN clock in the system, LINN\s own clock, the KLIMAX clock is patented and a major part of why LINN DS outperforms any other product. Notes and Timing!! Only with perfect timing can the music deliver the feeling and emotion behind which the artist intended and that\s what we strive for from a system.
LINN DS has up to four on/board DAC (2 per channel) using them in a similar way to how an analogue balanced system works enabling comparison of two separate signals to allow corrections for error or unwanted noise. LINN has total control over the DAC's they use,integrating their own programming (owned/patented by LINN) unlike much of the competition which simply buy them off the shelf.
Add to that the flexibility and function of LINN DS, multi/room, share and source, even vinyl to the rooms, touch screen control and browsing from a tablet ... and there is actually no reason left to by a DAC which is a technically inferior solution, one that is quite often more expensive. Even our own studio professional DAC which we use for Live concerts cannot challenge our LINN DS.
