SONDEK LP12

LINN SONDEK LP12 - background

Launched at a time when amplifiers and loudspeakers were seen as being most critical to the performance of any system, the Sondek LP12 showed that extracting more information from the record itself was the most critical challenge.

Quite simply, information lost at the source is lost forever.

Since its introduction over 30 years ago the Sondek LP12 has been the turntable by which all others are judged and each component has been continuously improved to extract even more information from a vinyl record.

At the heart of the Sondek LP12 is Linn’s patented low-noise, single-point bearing. This advanced yet simple bearing design ensures the smooth motion of the turntable and eliminates noise to ensure that all you hear is the music.

The high mass, perfectly balanced, belt-driven platter maintains speed stability, while the solid wood plinth, suspended sub-chassis and stable arm platform combine to provide freedom from vibration and acoustic feedback.

The combination of these precision-engineered components creates a turntable with an unequalled ability to provide pitch accurate, faithful reproduction of your cherished vinyl collection.

A partnering range of Linn tonearms and cartridges are available to ensure you get the maximum performance from your Sondek LP12.

Brand new sub-chassis for LP12 - release date 21 Sept 2013.

KORE

The Kore sub-chassis and armboard is designed for extra rigidity, and removal of unwanted damping, making it a perfect performance upgrade for your Sondek LP12 turntable.

It follows the design philosophies of the Keel, but delivering a solution at Akurate level.
The sub-chassis is strengthened by a multilayer, box construction, using 1.5mm thick aluminium. Three parts are bonded together using a special Linn-specified adhesive together to form an incredibly stiff structure, whilst keeping the weight low.

The armboard is now machined from solid using a similar process to Keel, with strengthening ribs on the underside, providing the ultimate in stiffness and rigidity. This is then bonded to a the sub-chassis so that the assembly now exhibits the properties of a single piece. The arm now has a direct connection to the bearing, as the arm collar is bolted directly to the sub-chassis.

More on LINN Kandid

Kandid, the best cartridge we've ever made

Kandid_side_72dpi.jpg
40 years after the introduction of Sondek LP12, we’re delighted to announce the arrival of the best sounding cartridge we’ve ever made - Kandid.

This new moving coil cartridge offers the perfect opportunity to contact your LP12 customers and invite them into your shop to listen to an exceptional new level of vinyl performance.

One of the key performance improvements comes as a result of removing the cartridge housing - probably also the most striking aesthetic difference we’ve made to Kandid.  Stripping back the housing to expose the motor assembly has resulted in an even purer, cleaner sound than ever before.

More accurate audio reproduction is achieved thanks to the repositioning of the stylus and cantilever within the body of the cartridge. The angle of the magnets and coil in the front pole piece has been off-set so that they are parallel when the record is playing which ensures perfect alignment for accurate movement on the record.

Kandid is the perfect partner for our Ekos SE tonearm.  The chassis is machined from the same aircraft grade aluminium as the Ekos SE headshell and features our 3-point mount for completely rigid and accurate coupling with the tonearm.

My first impression of LINN's NEW Akubarik's

Firstly I am all in favour of compact systems so for me it's a great advantage that they are fully active. Technical information you can get from the designer on the following video link http://vimeo.com/search?q=akubarik I can pick a few points about the design. I don't like blue lights ... I'd hoped it would be smaller to fit more of my customers that have smaller rooms and apartments with neighbours. But actualythey look great, very tidy indeed. A good start and very interesting but how do they perform? The obvious reference systems are Akurate 242 Aktiv with LINN Akurate amps or Klimax 350A's reference speakers. Straight off the Akurate 242's can't compete on the bottom end. The Akubariks deliver controlled base no matter the volume. Whether the 3k array performs better than on aktive 242, I don't know but it's probably quite similar. It is very good. It's all very good and well balanced. At no point did I experience any issues with frequ

Visit the LINN factory with us
